Mariners play two doubleheaders in three days @ the Kingdome

24 Aug

Lets play two!

The Seattle Mariners in their inaugural 1977 season got walloped by their expansion buddies – The Toronto Blue Jays 7-0 and 9-3 on August 24, 1977. That afternoon 13,253 made their way to the Kingdome.

Mariner Manager Darrell Johnson was tossed from Game 2 after disputing a Toronto ground ball which was judged a double. It was Johnson’s third ejection of the season.

Johnson managed the Boston Red Sox in the 1975 World Series.

Lee Stanton hit his 19th home run for the M’s in Game 2.

The M’s split with the Cleveland Indians two days earlier, losing the first game 12-1 and rebounding to take Game 2 4-3 in front of 12,347. They had an off day between the two doubleheaders. Both opponents played just one day in Seattle before heading out of town.

Seattle played five doubleheaders at home that season!
